QIVITOQ

Cam OP & PHOTOGRAPHER, 2024

Qivitoq follows French snowboarding legend Mathieu Crépel as an adult returning to Tasiilaq, Greenland, 30 years after appearing as a ten‑year‑old in the iconic snowboard film Kallaallit Nunaat. Now facing the realities of climate change, isolation, mental health crises, and social change, the film blends breathtaking scenery and Mat’s signature riding style with a deeply personal reflection.

I contributed to the film as a cam op, working under director Wallid Berrissoul, as well as taking on the role of expedition photographe; capturing stills and creating articles for the snowboard media.

The filming involved a ten-day expedition, pulling all our gear on sleds, camping under Northern Lights, taking turns watching for polar bears and culminated with riding an iceberg in a frozen fjord.

I’m immensely proud of this project, not just for the experiences it provided and the physical achievement of the expedition element, but this was one of the few times I’ve been involved in a larger film production, and one that wasn’t directed by me. I loved the team dynamics, and the feeling of being simultaneously supported and responsible for the other members of the crew is a very special memory.
